How Audit Connects to Your Wider Financial Position

In the UAE's evolving regulatory landscape, an external audit does not live in isolation. It is the direct foundation for your entire compliance and corporate structure:

  • Qualifying Free Zone Person (QFZP): Audited IFRS statements are mandatory to secure and protect the 0% corporate tax rate on qualifying income.
  • Transfer Pricing Compliance: Related-party disclosures in your audited accounts must reconcile seamlessly with FTA transfer pricing files.
  • ICV Certification: Your certified In-Country Value score is calculated directly from your latest audited financial statements.
  • Banking & Credit Facilities: UAE banks require clean audited accounts before sanctioning or renewing corporate credit lines.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Requirements depend on your licensing authority, legal form and financial position. Many mainland entities and most free zones require audited financial statements for annual licence renewal. In addition, businesses claiming Qualifying Free Zone Person status under UAE corporate tax must maintain audited financial statements, regardless of free zone rules. Banks and lenders also routinely require audited accounts for credit facilities.

Financial statements in the UAE are prepared under International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) or IFRS for SMEs. Audits are conducted in accordance with International Standards on Auditing (ISA) issued by the IAASB.

A standard external audit typically takes two to four weeks once all requested schedules, reconciliations and supporting documents are provided. The timeline depends primarily on the quality and completeness of your accounting records.

An external audit results in a formal audit opinion on whether financial statements give a true and fair view. An agreed-upon procedures (AUP) engagement under ISRS 4400 involves carrying out specific tests agreed in advance, reporting factual findings with no opinion or assurance conclusion.

Auditor independence rules restrict the extent to which an audit firm can provide both bookkeeping or accounting preparation and statutory audit services to the same entity. Where independence requirements allow, appropriate safeguards must be in place. Where they do not, we can recommend an independent auditor or provide advisory services alongside your existing auditor.
